How will these changes affect you?

Children’s Services currently run by Worcestershire County Council will transfer to Worcestershire Children First on 1 October 2019. These services will include Children’s Social Care, Education, Early Help and Fostering.

Worcestershire Children First and Worcestershire Children First Fostering are 100% owned by Worcestershire County Council and will have a single unwavering focus on children and young people.

Children and families

The impact on children, families and carers will be minimal. The main difference you will notice is a new name. The commitment to improving the lives of children and young people in Worcestershire remains unchanged.

For children in care you will continue to have the same social worker, the same independent reviewing officer and the same contacts in every aspect of your care.

Since the Ofsted inspection of Children’s Social Care Services in October 2016 Worcestershire County Council has continued to make progress in improving services. The ambition is that at the point of transferring services to Worcestershire Children First, the service will be performing well, and we will have a positive platform to sustain the improvement and further improve outcomes for children and young people.

We will make sure that staff are supported during the transition from Worcestershire County Council to Worcestershire Children First to continue to do their very best for children and families in Worcestershire.

Foster carers

We are currently registering an independent fostering agency, Worcestershire Children First Fostering, to continue to offer placements for children in care by Worcestershire Children First on behalf of Worcestershire County Council.

Foster carers will transfer to Worcestershire Children First Fostering with the same levels of supervision and support that they have at present. We will continue to offer our carers a wide-ranging training programme which assists them to develop their skills and knowledge to look after and support the children we place with them.
